Season 2 guest stars for Peacock’s newsroom comedy “The Paper” have been confirmed, including Jon Lovitz (“The Simpsons”), Andy Richter (“Conan”), Lisa Gilroy (“Jury Duty”), Matt Braunger (“Agent Carter”), Toks Olagundoye (“Family Guy,” “Beeb and Butthead”) and Phil Hendry (“The Phil”). Hendry radio program).
The series, a loose spin-off of “The Office,” returns with new episodes on September 9. In Season 2, Ned explores the journalism movement after sweeping the Ohio Journalism Awards. He tracks down local private clubs and endangers Toledo’s truth tellers. “While he and Mare try to understand their attraction, Esmeralda struggles to find her place, and the staff gradually develops as reporters,” the logline reads.
The ensemble cast of The Paper includes Domhnall Gleeson, Sabrina Impacciatore, Chelsea Fry, Melvin Gregg, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Tim Key, Ramona Young, Eric Rahill, Duane Shepherd Sr., Alex Edelman, and Oscar Nunez (who reprises his role of Oscar Martinez).
Beyond the Oscars, the similarities between The Office and The Paper are that the documentary production team chronicling the resurgence of a moribund local newspaper in the Midwest is the same group that was incorporated into the Scranton-based paper company Dunder Mifflin decades ago. (Plus, Bob Vance from Vance Refrigeration makes a cameo appearance in the premiere episode.)
Greg Daniels and Michael Corman are co-creators and executive producers of The Paper, which also features EPs Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant, Howard Klein, Ben Silverman, and Banijay Americas (formerly Reveille). “The Paper” is produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studios Group.
