ABC Australia’s upcoming legal workplace drama series ‘The Great White’ from See-Saw Films is currently filming in Sydney and the cast is being strengthened.

In addition to Hugo Weaving, who has already been announced, Eamon Farren (The Witcher, The Witcher), Arlo Green (Mother, Pregnant, M3GAN), and Miranda O. To (Talk to Me, The Lord of the Rings), Sacha Horler (The Dressmaker, Peter Rabbit) will join the show, as will Brigid Zengeni (Artful). Dodger”, “Missing You”), James Majus (“Heartbreak High”), Emily Barclay (“Babyteeth”, “The Inbetween”), Dinasha Perera.

Behind the camera, Alyssa McClelland (Sex Education, My Brilliant Career) serves as set director, actor and director Mia Wasikowska makes her television directorial debut, and Cannes Film Festival selection Samantha Lang (The Well, Carlotta) also directs.

The Great White, from UK and Australia-based Seesaw, the leading Oscar-winning production company owned by ABC, Screen Australia and Media One and responsible for Slow Horses, Apple Cider Vinegar and Heartstoppers, stars Weaving as a brilliant but disgraced barrister who is sentenced to a 12-month supervision order for professional misconduct and ends up working at a troubled law firm. Burdened by debt and desperate to restore his reputation, he reluctantly takes on the case of a dangerous dog that he considers to be far beyond his reach.

But what began as a fight to save a dog’s life draws him into the unexpected world of animal law, leading to a series of lawsuits on behalf of the animals and a bold challenge to the Supreme Court to free a zoo elephant.

“This is See-Saw Films’ first collaboration with the ABC. We are thrilled to be working with the ABC on a show that offers a brilliant blend of sharp wit, emotional depth and compelling courtroom storytelling, delivered by an outstanding team of cast and creators representing some of Australia’s best screen talent,” said Liz Watts, head of film and television at See-Saw Films.

Rachel Okine, head of scriptwriting at ABC, added: “‘The Great White’ immediately caught our attention as one of the most distinctive and surprising stories we’ve ever read. The Seesaw team has assembled the perfect creative force to bring it to life, both in front of and behind the camera. Viewers can expect to laugh, cry and reflect.”

“The Great White” is scheduled to air on ABC Television and ABC iview in 2027.
