Lexi Maintree is Elle Woods through and through.
While promoting the Legally Blonde prequel, Minnetree donned her version of one of the fictional character’s most iconic costumes from the original 2001 film.
On Saturday, the actress, who plays high schooler Woods on the Prime series, attended Prime Video’s “Elle World” event in New York City wearing a hot pink sequined dress.
Of course, Elle Woods’ choice to wear her signature pink was significant, but the vintage Dolce & Gabbana dress itself also has a deeper meaning to the history of this iconic film.
Selected from the brand’s fall 2000 collection, Reese Witherspoon wears the original blue version in a memorable shopping scene in the film, and Woods shows off her fashion chops when a salesperson tries to sell her a season-old dress at full price.
“Is this low-viscosity rayon?” she asked the salesperson, adding, “Does it have half-loop topstitching on the hem?”, catching the salesperson just in time to grab her.
Minetree further enhanced the reference by incorporating not only a crystal-encrusted belt around her waist, but also Tiffany’s sterling silver dog tag necklace ($1,650), which the character wore in the same scene.
Plus, the pink sequins make it inevitable to draw comparisons to the pink sequin bikini Woods wears in her Harvard Law School entrance video.
Witherspoon herself dressed in the theme, wearing a pink Prada dress and silver heels. Meanwhile, the entire cast reunited for the event, including Jennifer Coolidge, Selma Blair, and Ali Larter, who all came together for the 25th anniversary.
Making a quick change to a second sparkly look later the same day, Maintree wore another crystal-encrusted minidress.
Although the silhouette is different, it was designed in the same pale blue tones as Elle Woods’ original, with the actress drawing from her archives of Dolce & Gabbana, this time pulled from the Spring 1995 collection by stylist Molly Dixon.
Appearing on the talk show for the first time last week, Minnetree wore the same Marc Jacobs pink tulle dress the 50-year-old actress wore to the film’s 2001 premiere, borrowed from Witherspoon’s own closet.
Back in February, Witherspoon shared a video on Tik Tok breaking the news to Mine Tree that she had landed the role. Witherspoon not only embodies the original Woods, but is also an executive producer on the series.
“ELLE” is scheduled to be distributed on Prime from July 1st.
