Peacock has ordered a television series adaptation of Matt Dinniman’s New York Times bestselling book Dungeon Crawler Carl. Seth MacFarlane’s Fuzzy Doors is behind the series from the newly renamed Universal Global Television. Variety reported in April that the show had landed on Peacock.
Chris Yost (The Mandalorian) will serve as writer and executive producer, while Dinniman will serve as co-executive producer. MacFarlane will serve as executive producer, with Fuzzy Door’s Erica Huggins and Rachel Hargreaves-Held also serving as EPs.
The project, based on the book series of the same name by Matt Dinniman, was originally acquired by Universal International Studios in early 2025, but no networks or streamers were affiliated at the time.
“Surprise! We are pleased to announce that our friends at Peacock have officially greenlit the ‘Dungeon Crawler Carl’ TV series,” Dinniman wrote on social media. “Myself, Chris Yost, Seth MacFarlane, and his team at Fuzzy Door are all really excited to get to work. We’ll share more details in the coming weeks. If you’re going to SDCC, be sure to include me and Chris on the panel at DCC. In the meantime, we wanted to thank the fans who helped make this happen.”
Here’s the logline: “An alien invasion wipes out most of humanity, and the survivors are forced to fight for their lives in a sadistic intergalactic game show. Bad, right? Now try it barefoot and with a stuck-up, self-centered, tiara-wearing talking cat as your partner. Dungeon Crawler World: Welcome to Earth: The Apocalypse is on TV…and Coast Guard veteran Carl finds himself stuck in his thoughts.” The story follows his ex-girlfriend, award-winning show cat Princess Donut Queen Anne Chonke as she tries to survive the end of the world, battling monsters, aliens, crazy AI, and even other survivors. It’s all about good television. Survival is not an option. ”
“Dungeon Crawler Karl” has sold over 10 million copies. Ace Books and Audible are the publishers of this series. There have been seven books in the “Dungeon Crawler Karl” series so far, and the eighth book is scheduled to be released on May 12th. Dinniman previously said he planned to publish 10 books in the series overall.
