Amanda Seyfried was allegedly forced to hire a bodyguard after her controversial comments about Charlie Kirk’s assassination.
In an interview with British GQ published Monday, the “Housemaid” actress spoke about how she feared for her safety after calling a conservative political activist who was shot and killed at a university last fall “hateful.”
Reflecting on the controversy, she told the media:
“But there is only extraordinary fear and hatred and an urge to smash and crush,” she added. “And I’ve only experienced a small portion of that.”
“I want my kids to feel safe expressing their opinions as long as it’s not harmful,” Seyfried, 40, continued.
“So I’m like, ‘What should I do? What should I say?’ And then all of a sudden I find myself at the airport with my goddamn bodyguard and I’m like, ‘This is crazy,'” she concluded.
Kirk died in September 2025 after being shot on stage at Utah Valley University during his American comeback tour. He was 31 years old.
He and his wife, Erica Kirk, have two children, a daughter who will turn 4 in August and a son who is 2.
Like the Kirk family, Seyfried has two children with her husband, Thomas Sadoski, nine-year-old daughter Nina and five-year-old son Thomas.
After making her first comments about Kirk after his death, Seyfried defended him by writing on Instagram:
“While I can be outraged by misogynistic and racist rhetoric, I also very much agree that the murder of Charlie Kirk is absolutely disturbing and deplorable in every imaginable way,” she continued. “No one should have to experience this level of violence.”
She concluded, “This country grieves too many senseless and violent deaths and shootings. Can we at least agree on that?”
The Academy Award-nominated actress also refused to apologize for her social media comments in a December 2025 interview with Who What Wear magazine.
“By the way, I made a comment about something. I said something based on real reality, real footage, real quotes,” the “Mean Girls” actress told the outlet.
“What I said is quite true and of course you are free to have an opinion,” she added.
