Taiwan’s presence at the 2026 Annecy International Animation Film Festival and its associated MIFA market spans four official competition selections, with pitch sessions, showcases, and more than 20 additional projects in the Taiwan Pavilion, supported by the Taiwan Creative Content Agency (TAICCA).

The strongest competition title in Taiwan’s lineup is “Welcome to Dolly’s House,” which was chosen to open the Contrechamps section. Directed by Seven YCH, Rady Fu, and Tree Muta, the film reimagines the classic Chinese literary anthology Taiping Guanji into a modern story about a YouTuber who ends up in a puppet master’s mansion in search of fame and his confrontation with his buried identity. This work is one of the first Taiwanese animation works to combine rotoscoping and 2D animation.

The other three official selections represent a variety of formats. Joe Hsieh’s short film “Praying Mantis” was screened in the Midnight Shorts Competition after screenings in Venice and Toronto in 2025. The children’s television movie “YaYa’s Band,” directed by Chunchen Lien, is in the television film category and was previously selected as a finalist for the Prix Jeunesse. Eddie Wu’s thesis film “Immature”, an animated documentary about gender identity, will be entered into the thesis competition after winning awards at Viborg, Turku and Kaboom.

At MIFA, Ellis Karen Chan’s animated feature Wilderness of the Greenriver was selected for MIFA Pitch. This is a science fiction project about memory erasure and sibling bonds that won the Grand Prix at the 2025 Golden Horse Film Project Promotion.

TAICCA will host a partner pitch session on June 23rd under the banner of “Toon Up Taiwan!” to introduce five TV series. “Hwa’s Going On” by Pin-Yu Chang depicts a cactus with legs delivering a package to a deserted island. Produced by Piggy Flight Films and directed by Manfee Lai, “Leco’s Rolling Home” follows a young flying squirrel who explores Taiwan’s natural landscape with his family in a rolling house. Created by Ying Chieh Huang and Singing Chang, “My Loopy Granny” follows an eight-year-old child and his grandmother as they navigate a fantasy world. Director Esmee Hahn is directing “Ol, the Treasure Seeker,” which is about a homeless otter rebuilding his life. Yu Hong Chen, Hui Ling Lo and Wendy Lai created “TraTra & MuuMuu”. In this film, a invisible being dissatisfied with his appearance leaves his home planet and embarks on a journey with unexpected companions.

The Taiwan Spotlight Showcase on June 24 will feature four more TV series. Chen Hsin-i produces Rusasa Animation’s interactive musical show for young children, “Hi Kids! Sing and Dance with the Rusasa Family.” Liao Tai-yu will direct “Puringau” for MKOrigin Studio. It’s a fantasy series about young magicians facing rivals and dark spirits, produced by Yoko Vigneault. This project was previously proposed at MIFA 2025. John Liau created Flamey Rangers for Brilliant Animation Studios, an educational series built on the concept of the Five Elements. Rounding out the showcase is “Beelu’s Yum Yum Time Season 3,” directed by Li Fu-hsien and produced by Zhang Jiajia of Taiwan Bar Studio. The first two seasons of this food and adventure children’s series were released in the Annecy market in 2024 and 2025.

A further 12 works are on display in the Taiwan Pavilion. Works in development include “Cloudy Leopard” by Mangowork Studio’s director Chee Po-zhou and producer Yang Dauning, which won the top prize at the 2024 Taiwan Creative Content Fest and also won at a previous MIFA pitch. In this film, a cloud-shaped cat and two siblings bond during a mysterious epidemic.

Harper Hou will direct Kind of Airbnb, a surreal horror short supported by the Cannes Short Film Corner Rendezvous Industry Program. Produced by Farmers Joy International’s Cindy Cheung and Katie Yang, Wang Shaudi’s “Granny and Magic Sprout” weaves a multi-generational fantasy partially set in Taiwan during the Japanese occupation. Chan Wu-ching will direct “A Girl Named Chao-ti,” an animated historical drama created by Ako Creative’s Zhang Hui-wen, set in 1922 after a young bride struggles to get an education.

Spot Light Integrated Marketing’s Caster Wu’s “Inkbloom” is set in the enchanting 1930s Dadaocheng and centers on a diva and lyricist who uses music and magical ink to overcome colonial barriers. Jerry Su will direct “Red Paco: The Origin” at Kanova Studios. This is a science fiction feature about three planetary heirs scattered across the planet who begin to unite their hidden powers.

Pavilion’s TV series include Mangowork Studio’s Qi Pozhou and Yang Dauning’s early childhood series “Dear Mei,” which was also featured at the 2025 Kidsscreen Summit. Leo Liao directed the digital underground drama “Re-Soul” at Movect Studio, which was screened at the 2026 Taipei Film Festival. Hsu Chiahao and Joy Chiou are directing Reel Asia Pictures’ “Worldbot,” about a shape-shifting robot that protects the world’s landmarks. “Who’s Our Sub Today?” Co-directed by Chun-Chien Lien and Pohan Lee, Dotdot and Dawin Creative’s classroom series, now MIFA’s official pitch selection for 2021. Director SOA Hsu “Boom!Boom!Beans!” Sci-fi series from Xanthus Animation Studio won Best Animation Program at the 2025 Golden Bell Awards and was included in the Prix Jeunesse 2025/2026 Catalog. Ice Leng created “Feifei and Curly” for the Fubon Cultural Education Foundation, featuring a young girl who records her observations of daily life. Michael Lalo Wong directs “The Tcup Show” for Whatube Studios. The series is a hybrid live-action/animated space adventure series for children ages 3 to 6. Seven YCH directed “HBB: Goodbye and Hi” for Tstimes. This work tells the story of a boy who enters a fantasy world to reunite with his late mother through a character he creates in a picture book.
