The sci-fi feature “The Decisive Moment”, directed by Zhang Disha and produced by Huang Zhenxin, will have its world premiere on June 21st as the closing film of the 28th Shanghai International Film Festival, and will be screened at the Shanghai Film Arts Center after the Golden Cup Awards ceremony on the evening of June 20th.
The film, written by Fu Xiaoxi and Zhang Disha, takes place in two interwoven timelines. Set in 2035, the futuristic arc follows three Chinese astronauts, played by Fan Bo, Gao Ye, and Sun Yang, who face a life-or-death emergency on their way back to Earth. They lose contact with ground control and intercept a mysterious coded signal that changes their fate. In the past installments, Wu Lei plays an aerospace researcher born in 1970 whose early research becomes the crew’s only lifeline. The two timelines are connected through signals, allowing efforts to avert crises across time.
Following its SIFF premiere, “The Decisive Moment” is scheduled for a national theatrical release in China in the summer.
The festival, which will be held from June 12 to 21, will open with the world premiere of the Hong Kong drama “After Peace,” directed by Keen TK Wong in his film debut and produced by Derek Yee. Starring Steven Fung, Chrissy Chow, Maioli Wu, and Angela Yuen, the film is about a famous stage director whose boundaries between theater and reality begin to dissolve while casting for a new production. “After Peace” was developed through the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government’s Director Succession Scheme, which combines veteran filmmakers with emerging talent.
