Variety has learned exclusively that Jimmi Simpson will appear in Hulu’s upcoming drama series “Conviction.”
Simpson will co-star with previously announced lead actress Elisabeth Moss and fellow cast members Sebastian de Sousa and Adam Godley. The show is based on Jack Jordan’s novel of the same name and was greenlit on the streamer in February.
The logline for “Conviction” reads: “Confident lawyer Neve Harper (Moss), a criminal defense attorney, finally takes on a career-defining case: a mass murder case in which a husband is accused of setting his wife on fire and killing her. But when a mysterious stranger begins blackmailing Neve, she is forced to compromise all her legal, moral, and ethical obligations to win her acquittal, or risk her dark secret being exposed.”
The exact details about Simpson’s character are being kept secret.
Simpson previously starred in the HBO series “Westworld,” for which he was nominated for an Emmy Award in 2018 for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama. He also appeared in the critically acclaimed “USS Callister” episode of “Black Mirror” and reprized his role in the recent sequel episode “USS Callister: Into Infinity.” Other television credits include “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” “House of Cards,” and “Pachinko,” and film credits include “Breaking News of Yuba County,” “Audrey’s Children” and “Zodiac.”
He is repped by Cognition Artists, CAA, attorney Bruce Gellman, and Gingham PR.
David Shore is adapting Conviction for the small screen and will also serve as showrunner and executive producer. In addition to starring, Moss is also executive producing under his Love & Squalor Pictures banner. Warren Littlefield, who worked with Moss and Hulu on both The Handmaid’s Tale and The Testaments, will serve as executive producer for Littlefield.
Shore is executive producing alongside Erin Gunn under the Shore Z Productions banner. Jordan will also serve as executive producer, with Littlefield’s Ann Johnson and Lisa Harrison also serving as executive producers. Bert Salke will executive produce alongside Love & Squalor’s Lindsey McManus through Co-Lab21. TV number 20 is the studio. Shore and Littlefield currently have overall deals with 20th TV, where Jordan also has a multi-year development deal.
