David Faustino, who played Christina Applegate’s brother in Married…WithChildren, has revealed that the actress still has her signature sense of humor despite battling multiple sclerosis.
“It’s been very difficult for her, but she’s kept her sense of humor,” Faustino said in a new interview with US Weekly, adding that Applegate’s MS diagnosis was “a real blow.”
Ms Faustino, 52, said Ms Applegate, 54, had a “dry, sarcastic sense of humor from the moment I met her” and that “nothing has changed” despite serious health problems that recently resulted in her being hospitalized.
Faustino admitted that the “Dead to Me” star remains “very cynical” and “very dry.”
“She’s getting through this with humor. That’s her way,” the voice actress explained, noting that she has been “supporting” Applegate since announcing her diagnosis in June 2021.
Faustino also confirmed that he is in regular contact with the Emmy winner.
“I go see her a lot. We send a lot of emails, we do a lot of check-ins,” he said. “All we talk about is funny stuff. And that’s all I can do, right? Give her my love.”
He added, “When we sit down, we sometimes have deep conversations. But we also laugh constantly.”
Applegate and Faustino played the Kelly brothers and Bud Bundy, respectively, on “Married…With Children.”
The sitcom aired on FOX from 1987 to 1997 and starred Ed O’Neill and Katey Sagal as parents Al and Peggy Bundy.
Applegate gave an update on her health in April after being hospitalized in Los Angeles.
“Thank you for the outpouring of love and blessings. Health issues are common for me, but I’m a strong chick and getting stronger and better each day,” she wrote on Instagram.
“I’m taking some time to focus on my health, but I’ll be back soon with more to say,” added the author of “You with Sad Eyes.”
Applegate’s representatives declined to say whether the actress was hospitalized with an autoimmune disease.
“We do not comment on whether she is hospitalized or the nature of her treatment,” a representative told Page Six in an April 16 statement. “As evidenced in her memoir and podcast, she has had a complex medical condition for many years and has been refreshingly open about it.”
Applegate revealed in February that she is bedridden due to ongoing pain, but still tries to take her 15-year-old daughter, Sadie, to school.
“I want to take her with me. That’s my favorite thing to do. It’s the only time we get to spend together,” the “Friends” star explained.
“I say to myself, ‘Get her safe so I can get her home and get back to bed,’ and that’s what I’m doing,” she added.
