The cast of Ted Lasso are paying tribute to beloved actor Anthony Head following his sudden passing at the age of 72.
Brett Goldstein, who plays Roy Kent in the Apple TV series, shared a photo of Head on his Instagram Stories and called his co-star “an amazing actor who played the worst human being in the world.”
Goldstein called it an “incredible skill” because Head was “the best guy.”
“He was infinitely charming, kind, fun and a joy,” he added of his beloved castmate who passed away. “He will be sorely missed. Love to his family ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️”
Head played Rupert Mannion, the vengeful and unfaithful ex-husband of Rebecca Welton, played by Hannah Waddingham, for the first three seasons of “Ted Lasso.”
His character was the previous owner of the fictional British soccer team AFC Richmond, which Welton took over after his divorce. He later became the owner of a rival and fictional team, West Ham United.
Keeley Hazell, who played Rupert’s girlfriend and eventual third wife, also shared a touching tribute to the late actor via her Instagram Story on Friday.
She posted a side-by-side photo of herself and Head smiling next to each other on the set of the UK-based comedy series.
“My on-screen husband, it was such an honor to work with you. My thoughts are with your family and the daughters you loved so much,” Hazel wrote with a heartbreaking memory.
Jeremy Swift, who plays AFC Richmond’s operations manager Leslie Higgins, also wrote a short message praising Head. In an Instagram post shared on Friday, she wrote next to a selfie of the stars: “Goodbye Tony, we adored you, rest in peace my friend.”
Head died “peacefully” on Friday from “complications from pneumonia,” his daughters Emily and Daisy said in a statement. His death came just months after his longtime partner Sarah Fisher shockingly passed away on January 1 at the age of 61.
The British actor, best known for his role as Rupert Giles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, received many heartfelt condolences from his Buffy co-stars, led by Sarah Michelle Gellar.
“Tell Giles I understand and it’s okay,” Geller echoed the quote from the season 5 finale. “Well, I don’t understand that, so it’s not okay.”
“But I know I’m the lucky one because I knew you,” she continued. “Thank you Daisy and Emily for sharing your father’s story with not only me but the world.”
