On Wednesday, actor James Handy’s murder suspect called 911 with a chilling confession after the 81-year-old was stabbed to death.
“I am the Son of Man, and I have just killed a man who has sinned,” the person told the news agency, according to audio obtained by People.
The “Top Gun: Maverick” star was later found unconscious in the front yard of his home in Tarzana, California.
He had a stab wound to the chest.
Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics then transported Handy to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Michael Gledhill, Handy’s girlfriend’s son, was arrested and charged with one count of murder.
The 44-year-old is reportedly being held at the Van Nuys Jail, with bail set at $2 million.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, Gledhill “informed responding officers nearby that he was the person they were looking for.”
“The suspect lives at the scene with the victim’s girlfriend and mother,” the statement added.
Specifically, detectives believe that “this is an isolated incident and there does not appear to be any danger to the public.”
Handy has kept his private life out of the spotlight, and little is known about his family.
The “Jumanji” star’s last public appearance was at the Whitefire Theater in September 2017.
“Top Gun: Maverick,” released in 2022, will be Handy’s last role.
In the film, he played Jimmy, a bartender working for Captain Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, played by Tom Cruise.
Handy began his career as an actor in 1997. In addition to roles in films such as Taps, Arachnophobia, and Logan, he has appeared on numerous television shows over the years, from Melrose Place to The Young and the Restless.
