A trailer has been released for the upcoming documentary “Death Boom,” which explores the multi-billion dollar death care industry. The film will have its world premiere at this year’s Tribeca Festival in New York on June 9th.
“Death Boom,” directed by Jessica Chandler, explores the most pressing issues surrounding end-of-life choices and the impending death boom (hence the title) that is expected to kill more than 1 million baby boomers over the next 15 years.
The film’s official logline reads, “Our funeral system is not ready for a ‘death boom.'” “As morgues overflow and wallets empty, a broken billion-dollar industry is exposed. But a better option exists. This shocking, eye-opening, and surprisingly uplifting documentary delves deep into the business of death, revealing who and why are keeping it alive. With unprecedented access and a bold voice leading a new movement, Death Boom reclaims the end of life with humanity, sustainability, and a healthy dose of dark humor.”
Eli Roth, director of “Ice Cream Man” and “Thanksgiving,” will serve as the narrator and also appear in the documentary. “Death Boom” is produced by an all-star filmmaking team including Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Davison, Philip Watson, Sean McKittrick and Raymond Mansfield. DiCaprio has produced many films to date, including “The Gorilla Story: Told by David Attenborough,” “The Lake,” “Sleepwalker,” “Yanuni,” “The Snow Leopard Sisters,” “Checkpoint Zoo,” and “Path of the Panther.”
The film is Chandler’s second documentary, following his debut feature, A Fine State This Is. This 2003 documentary follows artist Fargo Deborah Whitman and her experience with dissociative personality disorder.
Chandler and Ross will also serve as producers, with Edward H. Hamm, Jr. serving as executive producer. “Death Boom” is a production of QC Entertainment, The Horror Section and Appian Way.
