Sharon Stone decided to end her second marriage because of how her then-husband reacted during a terrifying health scare.
On Monday’s episode of David Begno’s podcast, “The One Who Believed in Me,” the “Basic Instinct” actress said she learned she had a tumor in her breast in the early 2000s.
“One of them was bigger than the size of my entire left breast,” she recalled. “And the doctor came out to my house and said, ‘Look, I think you should have a bilateral mastectomy. This is really bad. And we usually know when a patient gets this far that they have cancer before they even go in.’
Stone, 68, said she was confident her tumor was benign.
“I said, ‘I don’t have cancer,'” she said on the podcast. “And[the doctor]said, ‘That’s not for you to decide.’” And I said, “I will.” I am the one who decides that. I’m the one deciding. ”
Ultimately, the “Casino” star decided to have the surgery because “I’m not messing around.”
However, Stone’s then-husband made it clear that he did not support her decision.
“My husband said, ‘This is ridiculous,'” she recalled. “Then I got up and left the room.”
Podcast host Begno asked Stone, “What part is ridiculous?”
She replied, “I was going to have a bilateral (mastectomy). He was furious.”
Begno asked, “Oh, if that’s true, doesn’t that mean cancer might kill you?”
“No, no,” Stone replied.
The Oscar nominee said she was upset because her husband had to have both breasts removed.
“Then the doctor said to him, ‘If there were more patients like her, there would be more women alive today. You should sit down.’ And I said, ‘It’s up to me to decide, not you,'” she said.
Stone said her husband’s reaction ultimately led to the end of their marriage.
“That was the end of the marriage. That was it. He was done with me at that time. It was over,” she claimed.
“It was just over in the room. I knew it right away. It’s over, it’s just over. He thought I was being silly. He thought I was stupid. He thought I was making too many decisions on my own,” Stone added.
Although Stone did not name anyone, she was married to her second husband, Phil Bronstein, from 1998 to 2004.
The “Catwoman” actress’ tumor ultimately turned out to be benign and she did not need to undergo a double mastectomy.
In 2021, Stone revealed that during surgery to remove a tumor, doctors allegedly placed larger breast implants without her consent.
Bronstein did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
