RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Netflix today released the first images of Regjane Faria, who plays the main character Vicentina in the upcoming film “On the Place of My Son” (“Vicentina Pede d’Esculpas”), written and directed by Gabriel Martins (“Mars One”), scheduled for release in late 2026.
The company released the image during the panel “Netflix Licensing and Co-Production: An Innovative Model to Support Brazilian Independent Film” held at Rio 2C, Latin America’s largest creative gathering.
Filmed in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, On behalf of My Son follows Vicentina, whose son Wesley, who was the driver, dies after a tragic bus accident. As the investigation progresses, evidence suggests that Wesley’s actions may have been a suicide attempt. Afterwards, Vicentina embarks on a journey to find the victim’s family and apologize while facing her own sadness and anxiety.
“On behalf of My Son is the story of a woman who tries to move on after experiencing a deeply personal tragedy.Rejane Faria brings a powerful sense of truth to this character, and despite the unbearable grief, she still continues to move on and find herself. “We delicately balanced all the nuances of a woman trying to find a way to reconcile. This is a film about grief, humanity, and continuing to move forward even when everything seems like it’s falling apart,” said director Gabrielle Martins.
The film is produced by Filmes de Plástico, internationally known for its unique artistic expression and award-winning films that have been screened at the world’s leading film festivals. Also starring Mayra Azevedo, Renato Novaes, Karine Telles, Giovanna Heliodoro, Talma de Freitas and Grace Passo.

Martins, 38, is considered one of Brazil’s most promising filmmakers of the new generation. Mars One (Marte Um), written and directed by Martins, premiered at Sundance in 2022 and won four awards at the local Gramado Fest. The feature film was released in Brazil in August 2022 and was nominated for the country’s Academy Award for Best International Feature.
Martins is also one of the creators, writers and directors of the series “O Natal dos Silva”, a production of Filmes de Plástico, launched in November 2025 on the pay TV channel Canal Brasil and the streamer Globoplay.
