Pete Davidson’s friends have come to his defense after ex Elsie Hewitt publicly asked for help caring for their young daughter, days after news of their split surfaced.
A source close to the ex-couple exclusively told Page Six on Saturday that “Pete pays all expenses related to Elsie and Scottie, including rent, living expenses, and health insurance.”
A source added of the “Bap Kiss” star, “They may have broken up, but all he wants is for Elsie to be happy and in a good place.”
“His main priority right now is making sure Elsie and Scottie are taken care of, so why she would post something about not supporting him is completely baffling to everyone who knows them,” they continued.
“Obviously they had some personal disagreements and a rift in their relationship, but he is committed to being a good father.”
The source further claimed that Hewitt’s insinuation that Davidson was “not providing for her” was “absolutely false.”
They stated that “that’s not real at all” and argued that “the truth is that he is actually paying for everything.”
“Pete is doing everything he can to best support Elsie. He has changed plans and done everything he can to be physically and financially on site to ensure Elsie feels supported,” they concluded.
The actress posted a now-deleted post to her Instagram Stories over the weekend, sharing a photo of herself covered in lipstick hickeys.
“I’m currently looking for an assistant/mother’s helper/nanny type person/basically (a) right-hand person,” she wrote above the quirky selfie.
“If you are qualified and serious, please apply here,” she continued. “Only check @ replies with resumes ($ of course)”
Hewitt also posted a selfie video on TikTok on Friday. “I have a baby to take care of,” she whispered in the upload. “I have to work and earn money. I’m doing it myself, but it’s hard.”
A fan comment thread had mixed reactions, with one person saying, “It’s so unfair that I have to go through this alone.”
In response, another woman defended the comedian, writing, “Isn’t it fair? Her baby’s father is in her life and he’s also working 🤷🏼♀️,” while a repost of the video was accompanied by an X comment that read, “Pete Davidson is dead…”
Representatives for Davidson and Hewitt did not immediately respond to Page Six’s requests for comment over the weekend.
The Sun reported Friday that the “Industry” actress and “Saturday Night Live” alumna, who gave birth to her daughter Scottie Rose on Dec. 12, has quit the show.
“Pete travels a lot for work, but Elsie wanted more support from him at home after their daughter was born,” a source told the outlet in comments published Thursday, noting that it was “difficult” for the comedian “because obviously he has to work to make money.”
Another source told the show that the breakup was very recent and that the couple is “100% focused on Scotty” at the moment.
Sources told Page Six earlier this month that Davidson, 32, and Hewitt, 30, were “working through relationship struggles” and that it was “uncertain” how things would turn out, and that trouble was on the horizon.
After their split, a source said the “King of Staten Island” star and the “Industry” actress are “done” and have no intention of reconciling.
“There have always been problems in their relationship and things were not good between them at all,” the source explained. “They haven’t been here for a while.”
They added, “They tried to work things out, but decided it was best to go their separate ways.”
Following reports of their relationship breaking up, the new mother was spotted pushing Scottie in a stroller while out for coffee in New York City on Friday.
Meanwhile, the comedian is desperately trying to unload the couple’s sprawling home in Salem, New York.
