Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have reportedly lost several once-close friendships with their celebrity friends.
Markle and Prince Harry’s 2018 wedding was a star-studded affair, with Oprah Winfrey, Victoria Beckham, David Beckham and other A-listers watching the wedding, but in the eight years since, a significant number of the couple’s friendships have fizzled out, the Daily Mail reported on Saturday.
The newspaper reported that the couple had “no bridge to fall” but believed it was not their actions.
“They don’t understand it. They never think it’s them,” a source close to the Sussexes reportedly revealed.
“They love celebrities and don’t say names very often. The association inspires them,” the source continued. “But when someone stops calling, we don’t ask why.”
NewsNation’s Paula Froehlich told the show that some of the couple’s celebrity friends are wary of Markle’s association with their brand and have distanced themselves from them.
“No one wants to date Meghan,” she added. “There are many reasons, but she might use her name to sell clothes.”
Froehlich claimed that Winfrey is one of the couple’s former friends who distanced themselves from her after her explosive two-hour interview with Markle in 2021.
Winfrey did not appear on Markle’s now-canceled Netflix show, “With Love, Meghan,” nor did her popular book club feature Markle’s 2021 children’s book, “The Bench.”
A source said some of the couple’s famous friends are tired of paying for private jets and events.
“They demand that you spend a lot of resources because they believe it is a privilege to be in their circle,” the source claimed. “They think they have a right to all the private planes.”
The source added of Markle: “She’s the cheapest!”
Other A-list friends whose friendships with the Sussexes have reportedly soured include George and Amal Clooney, the Beckhams and Serena Williams.
“Since then, she has distanced herself from Meghan,” the source claimed, adding, “[Williams]is not a drama queen and she’s tired of it all,” the Daily Mail reported.
Page Six reached out to representatives for Meghan and Harry, as well as representatives for Winfrey and Williams, but did not immediately receive a response.
