Mina Kimes’ English degree from Yale University came in handy on the finale of “Celebrity Jeopardy! All Stars.” An ESPN football analyst won the top prize of $1 million for charity after correctly answering the show’s deciding trivia question.
The final episode of the show, which aired Friday night on ABC, featured Kimes facing off against actors and comedians Ike Barinholtz and Steven Weber.
Moving on to Final Jeopardy!, Kimes’ score was $12,500. Mr. Weber followed with $10,500. Barinholtz was $5,100. The clue in the “Same Name” category was “This is the name of an 1873 novel subtitled ‘Today’s Story’, a period in U.S. history, and a television drama set to air in 2022.”
Correct answer (spoilers): “The Gilded Age,” which is a novel written by Mark Twain and also an HBO show of the same name. Barinholtz reacted correctly and doubled the score, but could not catch Kimes. Kimes also won Final Jeopardy. Questions to win the tournament.
Mr. Kimes won $1 million for L.A.’s SELAH Neighborhood Homeless Coalition, Mr. Barinholtz won $200,000 for the Noonan Syndrome Foundation, and Mr. Weber won $200,000 for New Directions for Veterans.
Kimes is an NFL analyst, senior writer, podcast host and television contributor for ESPN, and first joined ESPN The Magazine in 2014. She has appeared on the network’s “NFL Live” and provides football analysis on “SportsCenter,” “First Take” and other shows. Kimes graduated summa cum laude from Yale University with a bachelor’s degree in English.
21 contestants participated in the “Celebrity Jeopardy! All-Stars” tournament. These were the winners of three seasons of “Celebrity Jeopardy!” — Barinholtz, Lisa Ann Walter, W. Kamau Bell — plus: Mark Duplass, Rachel Dratch, Andy Richter, Macaulay Culkin, Cynthia Nixon, Margaret Cho, Ray Romano, Katie Nolan, Mina Kimes, Stephen Webber, Sean Gunn, Roy Wood Jr., Patton Oswalt, Robin Seeds, Mo Rocca, Timothy Simmons, Jackie Torn and Mira Sorvino. The show aired on ABC, and episodes were available on Hulu the next day.
