Call it sheer audacity.
Riley Keough nearly broke the Cannes Film Festival dress code on Thursday night when she attended the premiere of Histoires Parallèles wearing sheer Chanel haute couture.
It consisted of a collarless jacket, midi skirt, and top, all made from nude-colored organza embellished with beads and pearls, and the see-through ensemble revealed the actress’s pale blue lingerie.
Silhouettes were conservative, but the festival famously banned revealing styles in 2025.
According to the latest Cannes rules, “nudity is prohibited on the red carpet and other areas of the festival.”
Also, is it prohibited? Step-and-repeat full-length gowns used to be a popular choice for events.
The charter states that “voluminous costumes that impede the proper movement of guests or complicate seating within the theater, especially costumes with large trains, are not permitted.”
But Keogh, 36, isn’t the only star who has tested the limits of Cannes’ dress code since the rules changed.
At last year’s festival, fellow Chanel ambassador Kristen Stewart opted for a short pink tweed suit paired with a sheer skirt, while Heidi Klum turned heads at the opening ceremony in a floral Elie Saab dress with a dramatic train.
Meanwhile, judge Halle Berry was forced to “transition” from a voluminous Gaurav Gupta dress to a more sophisticated striped Jacquemus number at the same red carpet event.
