After years of intense scrutiny at the beginning of her iconic film career, Demi Moore has become empowered by her personal philosophy on body image.
The “The Substance” star, who recently sparked concern with his slender, toned look at this week’s Cannes Film Festival, has spoken multiple times about the pressures of his past in candid interviews.
Moore, now 63, told People magazine in 2025.
“That doesn’t mean I don’t sometimes look in the mirror and think, ‘Oh, I look older,’ or ‘Oh, my face has fallen off.’ I do,” she continued. “But I can accept that that is where I am today. And I know that the difference today is that it doesn’t define my worth or who I am.”

Concerns were also raised after Moore attended the SAG Acting Awards in March. Later, she allegedly “attempted to avoid further scrutiny” when she attended the Academy Awards wearing a feather-lined dress with a peacock motif.
“The extravagant feathers cover most of her upper body, hiding her collarbone while bringing most of the focus to her face and sharp eyes,” a celebrity stylist told Page Six of the actress’ Gucci dress.
Moore, who shares daughters Rumer, 37, Scout, 34, and Talulah, 32, with ex-husband Bruce Willis, said in a November 2024 interview with Elle that “gratitude” is her overall goal now when it comes to body image.
“The truth is, I have love for my body, but it’s more about gratitude. It’s not just how I look, but right now I’m really grateful for everything my body does for me,” the Ghost star told the magazine.
“And the more you cherish the wrinkles around your eyes, the more you will be able to find beauty in the life you have lived, and the more beauty you will find in your life.”
She also reflected on the “pain” she endured in Hollywood trying to live up to the entertainment industry’s strict beauty standards.
“When I was young, I went through a lot of suffering,” she told the magazine, noting that she took responsibility for her own well-being amidst the fallout.
“A perfect example is when I was told to lose weight so many times,” he said, noting that a producer once “took[her]aside.”
“It was very embarrassing and humiliating,” she recalls. “But it’s just one thing: how I internalized it, and how it moved me to a place of so much torture and harshness against myself, of actual extreme action, and that I placed almost all of the value of being me in my body staying a certain way, that’s on me.”
Moore’s empowerment is evident in her confidence and the way she publicly addresses her body image in recent years.
Last year, when she won a Golden Globe for her incredible performance in 2024’s The Substance, which explores issues of body image and appearance, she shared some hard-won insight into the subject.
“In those moments when you don’t think you’re smart enough, pretty enough, thin enough, successful enough, or just basically good enough, a woman once said to me, ‘Just know that you’ll never be enough. But all you have to do is put down a measuring stick and you’ll know your worth,'” she said in her acceptance speech.
“And today, I celebrate this as a sign of my wholeness and the love that drives me, and as a gift that reminds me to do what I love and that I do belong,” she said.
