Amal Clooney loves vintage moments. Especially when it sparkles.
The lawyer attended the King’s Trust 50th anniversary celebrations at the Royal Albert Hall in London on Monday, where she was spotted wearing a gold sequin Alexander McQueen dress that caught the light from the flashing light bulbs from every angle.
Clooney, 48, paired the metallic look with Cartier Juste un Clou double hoop earrings ($14,600) and tripled down the gold with metallic point-heel pumps.
The dress, which originally debuted on the runway as part of the Fall/Winter 2007 Salem, In Memory of Elizabeth Howe, 1692 collection, was inspired by the persecution of women reminiscent of the Salem Witch Trials (and McQueen’s own ancestor Elizabeth Howe), a theme that is certainly close to the human rights lawyer’s heart.
Who was the first to wear this architectural look on the runway? Cameron Diaz wore it on the May 2007 Tokyo premiere red carpet of Shrek the Third.
The gown is covered entirely in gold sequins and features cap sleeves and a V-neckline. It is made to fit snugly to the wearer’s frame, with lines of metal sequins that seem to curve around every curve of the body.
The same dress sold for a whopping $114,000 at Sotheby’s Fashion Icon auction in December 2024, but it’s unclear whether Clooney was the special winner.
In fact, Amal was spotted arriving in Saint-Tropez last week for her husband George’s birthday celebrations in a fresh-off-the-runway Pucci ensemble, but she’s known for buying many of her pieces at auction and loves wearing pieces from her archives.
In January, Amal wore a bright red archival dress taken from Balmain’s 1957 haute couture collection on the Golden Globes 2026 red carpet. For the afterparty, she chose from Versace’s 2022 collection.
Amal was joined at the London event by George, who wore a navy blue suit, and make-up artist Charlotte Tilbury, who also opted for head-to-toe sequins.
