Fans will get another chance to see the return of Jake Sully and his family when Avatar: Fire and Ash arrives on Disney+ on June 24th.
This time, the Sally family is at war with their fierce enemies, the Na’vi, on Pandora. The third film in James Cameron’s Avatar series stars Sam Worthington, along with Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Kate Winslet, Bailey Bass, Britten Dalton, Trinity Bliss, Jack Champion, and Edie Falco. Oona Chaplin and David Thewlis debuted as new characters in the series.
After its release on December 19th, Avatar: Fire and Ash has grossed $1.4 billion worldwide. The film is the third Hollywood blockbuster to surpass $1 billion since 2025, following two Disney giants: the Lilo & Stitch remake in May and Zootopia 2 in November. This made Cameron’s “Avatar” films the highest-grossing movie trilogy of all time.
The first “Avatar” was released in 2009 and became the highest-grossing film of all time worldwide. That record still stands today, with lifetime box office grosses of over $2.9 billion. Its sequel, Avatar: The Way of the Water, was released more than a decade later in 2022 and grossed $2.3 billion at the box office.
The fourth Avatar movie is already scheduled to be released in 2029, and the fifth in 2031. Director Cameron talked about his plans for the sequel and how he plans to jump ahead in time to develop Sally’s children and further explore the wind traders introduced in “Fire and Ashes.”
