Mise en Scene Company (MSC) has acquired world sales rights to Dope Queens from writer-director Grafton Doyle and will introduce the title to buyers at the Cannes Film Market.
The film was produced by Julio López Velazquez, whose credits include Back Run and Place in the Field, through his Tomorrowland Productions, in association with Create Entertainment along with John Reyes Doyle, Grafton Doyle, and Atit Shah.
“Dope Queens” premiered at the Palm Springs International Film Festival earlier this year. Based on a true story, the film follows three friends who must operate overnight on the streets of San Francisco’s Tenderloin.
MSC will begin global sales discussions with distributors, streamers and premium platform buyers in Cannes. Negotiations were handled by John Reyes Doyle through Equites Productions, with Rory McDonald representing MSC.
MSC CEO Paul Yates said: “Dope Queens is a fearless piece of filmmaking that is raw, contemporary, visually stunning and deeply human. Grafton Doyle has delivered a film with a real cultural edge and significant international crossover potential. It plays out in a highly commercial, elevated genre space while retaining the emotional core of the thing. We were immediately drawn to its fluorescent visual identity, propulsive energy, and sharp romantic thriller framework. This is a very filmmaker-driven film.” MSC is committed to global advocacy and we are very excited to be working with John, Grafton and the entire team. ”
Director Doyle said: “I’m very excited to be working with MSC to bring ‘Dope Queens’ to Cannes. From the beginning, I felt like they understood this film both creatively and commercially, and I look forward to introducing it to audiences around the world.”
The company previously submitted “Billy Knight,” “Forelock” and “Desert Road” to the European Film Market in Berlin earlier this year.
