Savannah Guthrie weeps off-camera on the Today show as the search for her missing mother Nancy approaches 100 days.
Despite appearing calm and professional on air since returning to the news program last month, Page Six has heard that the veteran anchor is facing more struggles behind the scenes.
“She got emotional during the commercial break,” a source told Us, noting that the grief-stricken journalist was able to quickly compose herself before the cameras started rolling again.
Guthrie’s mother was abducted from her home in Arizona on February 1, 2026. The beloved anchor took an extended leave of absence, but returned to “Today” on April 6, even though the search is still ongoing.
“Sometimes fans sweet talk her. Whether it’s a guest or an autograph from a fan outside, she’s touched,” the source explained.
“That’s understandable,” they added of Guthrie’s feelings, noting that this doesn’t happen every day.
Another source told Page Six that “everyone” marvels at the “strength and courage” that Guthrie brings to the stage every day during this tumultuous time in his life.
“It’s never going to be ‘business as usual’ for her, but it’s important for her to keep moving forward, putting one foot in front of the other,” the source said.
We’ve heard that the show’s staff and cast, especially her close friend and co-host Jenna Bush Hager, are rooting for Guthrie through her heartbreaking situation.
“Jenna Bush is a source of comfort to her,” the source said. “She’s very dependent on Jenna.”
Over Mother’s Day weekend, Guthrie paid tribute to her mother in a series of photos she shared on Instagram.
“Mother, daughter, sister, Nonnie, I miss you with every breath,” she captioned the post. “We will never stop searching for you. We will never be at peace until we find you.”
She also asked for the public’s cooperation as the investigation continues.
As previously reported, the FBI is offering a $100,000 reward for any information related to Nancy’s case, and Guthrie and his family are offering $1 million for information leading to the discovery of his mother.
I heard that NBC has tightened up its security protocols recently.
Guthrie is bravely moving forward professionally.
She announced on Monday’s episode of “Today” that she will host the new “Wordle” game show with Jimmy Fallon, the project’s executive producer.
“We’re so happy for you! We’ve been looking for the perfect host for this event,” Fallon exclaimed. “We needed someone who looked like Wardle, someone who knew how to run a show. We did the pilot, and you were great.”
According to the New York Times, Ms. Guthrie admitted in an interview that Wardle was a point of connection between her and her mother.
“It’s weird to wake up every day and do the ‘Today’ show, and it’s weird to do a game show when your heart is broken,” she said. “Nothing has changed about that and it’s not easy. But I’m determined to put one foot in front of the other, and this is fun.”
