“The Traitors” and “Rockford Files” reboot

NBC has announced its schedule for the 2026-2027 fall broadcast season, including a new version of “Traitor.”

As previously announced, the NBC version of the hit competition series will feature civilian contestants and Emmy Award-winning host Alan Cumming as Faithful attempts to oust the Traitors for the show’s $250,000 prize. “Law & Order: SVU” will air Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT as a prelude to “Law & Order: SVU,” followed by “Law & Order” at 10 p.m.

“The Hunting Party” previously aired on Thursdays after the “Law & Order” block last fall. The show is still waiting on an announcement about its Season 3 schedule, making it the only NBC primetime scripted show that hasn’t been officially renewed or canceled.

“Law & Order” was recently renewed for Season 26, but this season is reportedly on a bubble and there is no guarantee it will return in the fall. But Lisa Katz, president of scripted content for NBC & Peacock, said that’s not really the case.

“I think it’s a bit of a misconception that it was in a bubble,” she said. “I think we were looking at all the different slots and opportunities and figuring out what would be where and how many episodes. So, to be honest, it was just like math.”

The “One Chicago” block continues Wednesday night. First up is “Chicago Med,” then “Chicago Fire,” and finally “Chicago PD” at 8 p.m.

NBC also has room for two new dramas and two new comedies. The new drama “Line of Fire,” starring Peter Krauss and Hope Davis, tells the story of a law enforcement family caught up in a deadly conspiracy and will air Mondays at 10 p.m. on Mondays, following a two-hour episode of “The Voice,” which will see the return of coach Kelly Clarkson. Then in October and November, the show will continue to air at 10 p.m. after an hour-long episode of “The Voice,” NBC will once again air the comedy “St. Denis Medical” at 8 p.m., and season two of “The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins” will move into the fall on Mondays at 8:30 a.m. at that time.

Fellow freshman series “Newlyweds,” a multicam comedy starring real-life married couple Tea Leoni and Tim Daly and executive producer Jamie Lee Curtis, will air Fridays at 8:30 a.m. after new episodes of “Happy’s Place.”

Two other new shows, a reboot of The Rockford Files starring David Boreanaz and Sunset PI, a comedy starring Jake Johnson from the Brooklyn Nine-Nine team of Dan Gall and Luke Del Tredisi, will both end mid-season. “Rockford Files” is scheduled to end in January, and “Sunset PI” is scheduled to end in February.

Both “Rockford” and “Sunset PI” have generated a lot of buzz since they were first announced as pilot pickups on NBC.

Regarding the decision to bring both shows to midseason, NBC’s head of programming strategy said, “It’s largely due to the time slots they’re going to air. We’ve set ‘Traitors’ on Thursdays at 8 o’clock, and we think that’s a great time slot for ‘Rockford,’ too.” And “Reggie Dinkins” was a mid-season show that had just finished its first run. We wanted to bring it back in the fall, and then we’ll introduce “Sunset PI” later in the season when “Reggie Dinkins” ends. ”

“Also, like Jeff said, we think ‘Rockford’ is a great 8 p.m. show, but we didn’t have an 8 p.m. time slot in the fall,” Katz added. “So this is an opportunity to put this work where we think it will get the biggest and best audience.”

NBC also announced a series pickup for the game show version of “Wordle,” hosted by “Today’s” Savannah Guthrie. The show was first reported to be in production in October 2025, with Guthrie himself confirming the series on Today. Other unscripted series returning to NBC this summer include “America’s Got Talent,” “American Ninja Warrior” and “Password.” As previously announced, Destination X will return in 2027.

As previously announced, NBC will broadcast the 78th Annual Emmy Awards on September 14th from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

On the sports front, the NFL’s “Sunday Night Football” will resume broadcasting, as will several NBA regular season games starting in October. Coverage for “Sunday Night Basketball” begins in the middle of winter. In the spring, NBC will broadcast the NBA playoffs and “Sunday Night Baseball.” The Peacock Network is also the home of college football, including the Big Ten Conference, WNBA regular season and playoff games, and the MLB postseason wild card playoffs.

NBC is also preparing a three-hour special on Dec. 10 to celebrate the network’s 100th anniversary. Many details have yet to be announced, but the special will begin at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.

Other features include “The Americas: A Wild 250th,” which celebrates the 250th anniversary of the United States. The special will feature “American iconic animals with deep ties to our land and our nation’s history, who have left an indelible mark on this country. From the majestic bald eagle to the fearless bison to the wise sea lion, each animal reflects America’s courageous spirit, worthy of our respect.”

NBC also plans to air “America: Mother’s Day” in 2027. The special’s description reads: “The wildest mothers on earth prove that with love, resilience, and a little bit of ingenuity, you can overcome almost anything. Set against the backdrop of this country’s vast landscape, this special features a collection of animal… Revealing how motherhood is shaped by the environment they inhabit and the heritage of the land itself, this poignant and enlightening show offers a new perspective on familiar stories and reminds us: Raising the next generation is the greatest adventure of all. ”

Both The Americas specials were executive produced by Mike Gunton (Life, Planet Earth II, Dynasties) and Holly Spearing of the BBC Studios Natural History Unit in association with Universal Television Alternative Studios.
