The Devil Wears Prada 2 is packed with cameos from some of the biggest names in fashion and media, but a few roles were left on the cutting floor, including Conrad Ricamora’s role as Andy’s (Anne Hathaway) roommate.
But Ricamora, best known for his roles in How to Get Away with Murder, Fire Island and the Tony-nominated Oh Mary!, has no hard feelings about the creative change. On Wednesday, the actor shared a behind-the-scenes look at his experience filming the sequel, calling it “one of the best working experiences” of his life.
“Dear Rica Moron, I, like you, can’t wait to see The Devil Wears Prada 2,” Ricamora captioned the post. “Working with the icon Anne Hathaway, the genius Aline Brosh McKenna, and under the steadfast direction of David Frankel will forever remain on my life’s highlight reel.”
Ricamora is in good company. Variety previously reported that cameos from Vogue bosses Anna Wintour and Sidney Sweeney were also praised. Sources say his character did not survive test screenings as audiences continued to wonder why Andy needed a roommate. While the storyline surrounding Andy’s shabby apartment still exists, the final film instead leans toward her spending time at the home of her old friend Lily (Tracy Thoms), a dynamic reminiscent of the 2006 original.
But Ricamora offered his own interpretation of why his character doesn’t make sense in the bigger picture. “That I’m too hot and sexy and my muscles are too big…the story of my life,” he joked.
The actor then urged his followers to buy tickets to The Devil Wears Prada 2, which opens in theaters on May 1st, and then to see the new Olivier and Tony-winning production of God of Carnage in New Orleans. Performances will begin in New Orleans on April 30th and run through May 17th.
