Murder, she postponed.
Murder, She Wrote, the reboot of the popular crime drama starring Jamie Lee Curtis, has been delayed for several months. Universal Pictures has postponed the film’s release date from December 22, 2027 to February 4, 2028.
“Murder, She Wrote” will distance itself from three major sequels: Disney’s superhero adventure “The Avengers: Secret Wars,” Warner Bros.’ fantasy blockbuster “The Lord of the Rings” and Lionsgate’s thriller “The Housemaid’s Secret,” all of which will be released on Dec. 17, the weekend before “Murder”‘s original spot on the calendar. Universal did not disclose the reason for the move.
Curtis stars in Murder, She Writing as Jessica Fletcher, the iconic crime writer and amateur detective best known as Jessica Fletcher, who was memorably played by Angela Lansbury in the original television series. Plot details for the upcoming series are being kept under wraps, but the show, which aired for 12 seasons from 1984 to 1996, centers on Fletcher’s talent for solving murders in the quaint fictional town of Cabot Cove, Maine.
“Pitch Perfect” director Jason Moore will direct “Murder, She Wrote,” a reboot from a script by “Dumb Money” screenwriters Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, whose latest film “Project Hail Mary” grossed $577 million worldwide and continues to grow, will produce the film through a first-look deal with Universal Pictures.
Before donning her trusty typewriter, tailored coat, and sensible handbag as Jessica Fletcher, Curtis appears in two 2026 indies. The psychological mindbender “Sender” and the crime thriller “The Only Living Pickpocket in New York.”
