Katherine Jackson, the matriarch of the legendary Jackson family, made a rare appearance this week ahead of the theatrical release of her biopic “Michael.”
Janet Jackson and the late Michael Jackson’s mother were pictured with Colman Domingo, who plays Katherine’s late husband Joe Jackson in the film.
“Receiving her love and support is all I needed,” Domingo wrote in the caption of his Instagram Story on Tuesday. “That night we looked at each other, laughed, and had such a wonderful moment.”
“Thank you to the families who came and loved us and our work,” he added.
Domingo, 56, also appeared to suggest that Catherine, 95, gave the film her approval, concluding: “We made her happy.”
While the cast of “Michael” and much of the Jackson family were in full attendance at the premiere event, two notable faces were absent from the festival: Michael’s sister Janet and the late King of Pop’s daughter Paris Jackson.
In recent years, Katherine has largely stayed out of the spotlight, aside from occasional appearances on social media with her daughter La Toya Jackson.
Back in March, La Toya shared a video of himself with Katherine at church to Instagram, calling his mother a “kind soul who radiated love” and “an inspiration to all of us.”
La Toya, 69, previously shared a slideshow of a heartfelt Mother’s Day tribute to Catherine in May 2025, dedicated to the head of her family’s musical dynasty.
“Happy Mother’s Day to all the incredibly wonderful, loving and beautiful moms out there!” she wrote at the time. “You truly are the foundation and force to move on in our lives. We love and respect all moms and your honesty! 😘💖”
Ten years ago, on Thanksgiving 2016, Michael’s two children, Paris and Prince Jackson, shared a ton of social media posts about their grandmother.
In recent years, Katherine, who has 10 children with Joe, has been embroiled in a legal dispute with Michael’s third child, Biggi Jackson (formerly known as Blanket). She also lost her son Tito Jackson in September 2024.
Over the years, Katherine has been played by Angela Bassett in the 1992 miniseries The Jacksons: An American Dream and by Patricia Idlette in the 2004 VH1 biopic Man in the Mirror: The Michael Jackson Story.
Nia Long plays Katherine in “Michael,” a biopic about the “Thriller” singer directed by Antoine Fuqua.
Jaafar Jackson, Michael’s nephew and Jermaine Jackson’s son, plays his uncle in the film, which has so far been poorly received.
“Michael” will be released in theaters at Moonwalk on April 24th.
