Andy Park, Marvel’s director of visual development, has left the studio after 16 years as part of Disney’s layoffs.

Park announced his resignation on social media. He wrote, “Visual Development at Marvel Studios: 2010-2026. The end of an era. I was there at the beginning of a team that broke the mold. Over 16 years, I worked on more than 40 films and led 15 films as Director of Visual Development. I couldn’t be more proud of the history we’ve created.”

He joined the studio in 2010, starting with production on Captain America: The First Avenger. Since then, he has created concept art for films such as “Deadpool & Wolverine” and costume art for Captain Marvel in “The Marvels.”

Despite this news, Park remains optimistic. He wrote, “My journey continues…” The layoffs come as part of a broader plan by Disney and new CEO Josh D’Amaro to “streamline operations” across the company’s various divisions.

As previously announced, the media company will cut approximately 1,000 roles primarily as a result of Disney’s creation of an integrated enterprise marketing division under the direction of Chief Marketing and Brand Officer Asad Ayaz.

According to people familiar with the matter, Park’s resignation was part of that removal. Marvel Studios staff were affected by layoffs in both Los Angeles and New York as the studio reduced its production schedule. The person added that Marvel intends to maintain a small visual development team, hire talent on a project-by-project basis and work with visual development artists on projects.

Ryan Meinerding, character designer, creative director, and head of visual development at Marvel Studios, will remain in place and the visual development team will work under his guidance.

The end of an era. I was there at the inception of the team that broke the mold. After 16 years, more than 40 films, and 15 films as the Visual Development Director, I couldn’t be more proud of the history we’ve built.
