Marlon Wayans and Sean Wayans are eyeing a return to one of the most famous comedies, and say a sequel to “White Chicks” could be in the works depending on the performance of “Scary Movie 6.”
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the brothers said they would be open to reprising the comedy, which they co-wrote and starred in. “Let’s put it this way: We’re in the game,” said Marlon Wayans, who added that a sequel “could happen” if “Scary Movie 6,” which is scheduled to be released in theaters on June 5, attracts audiences.
Released in 2004, White Chicks follows two FBI agents who transform from African-American men into two blonde white women who go undercover as wealthy socialites. The film grossed over $110 million worldwide and gained a strong cult following over time, becoming a staple of studio comedies in the early 2000s.
The Wayans brothers are returning to the Scary Movie series for the sixth installment, after not participating in the previous three entries. The original Scary Movie, which they co-wrote with Keenen Ivory Wayans, was a successful parody series that spawned multiple sequels and generated significant worldwide box office success.
“Scary Movie 6” will have a mix of returning and new cast members as the series looks to rebuild with its audience.
In addition to “White Chicks,” Marlon Wayans has also hinted at the possibility of reprising another of the brothers’ early collaborations, “Don’t Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood.”
For now, the future of White Chicks 2 appears to depend on whether Scary Movie 6 is a box office success.
