Dishwasher murder in Sam Raimi horror movie

The first trailer for The Evil Dead was shown to CinemaCon attendees in Las Vegas, giving them their first look at the next chapter in the long-running horror series.

The trailer begins eerily with the mother unloading the dishwasher conspicuously with sharp silverware, but she is interrupted by a knock on the door. When she opens it, an undead corpse with severed fingers and a car headrest sticking out of its skull appears, which she pulls out and drops on the floor, then terrorizes her family. A flashback then shows a terrible car accident, a door slamming, and a girl’s finger being severed. Back at the family’s home, the walking corpse pushes the boy into the dishwasher and stabs him full of knives. She jumped on his chest and pushed the silverware deep into his flesh.

The new film, directed and co-written by Sebastian Vanicek, is the sixth film in the Evil Dead series and the third standalone film, following 2013’s Evil Dead and 2023’s Rise. The new film continues the series’ recent approach of handing the reins to emerging filmmakers, with Vanicek tapped by series creator Sam Raimi to follow his 2024 feature debut, Infection.

‘Evil Burn’ stars Suheila Yacob (‘Dune: Part 2’), Hunter Doohan (‘Wednesday’, ‘Daredevil: Born Again’), Lucian Buchanan (‘The Night Agent’), Thandi Wright (‘Pearl’) and George Puller (‘It Only Takes a Night’). Raimi is producing under his Ghost House Pictures banner along with Rob Tapert, with original star Bruce Campbell and Evil Dead director Lee Cronin serving as executive producers.

The film is co-financed by New Line Cinema and Sony Pictures. Co-written by Vanicek and Florent Bernard, it continues the series’ transition to standalone stories centering on new characters confronting supernatural forces related to the Book of the Dead.

“The Evil Dead” is scheduled to be released in theaters in the United States on July 24th by Warner Bros. Pictures. Sony Pictures will handle international distribution through Columbia Pictures. And the horror doesn’t stop there, as ‘Evil Dead Wrath’ is already being developed by Francis Gappi for 2028.
