Britney Spears’ decision to seek help for substance abuse was her own choice, sources told Page Six.
The 44-year-old singer voluntarily entered a rehab facility, her rep confirmed to Us on Sunday.
“This was her own choice,” we were told. “This isn’t about one substance in particular, it’s two-fold. This is about Britney putting her mental health first and taking time to focus on what’s important to her.”
“She is diligent about taking care of her health,” the source added. “This is something she really wants to do on her own. This was her own decision.”
Sources say Spears’ entire family supports the decision. The pop star shared photos and videos of her spending time with her two sons, Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19, after she was arrested for drunk driving on March 4.
“Everyone wants Britney to be healthy and in good shape, and the fact that this was her decision is a testament to how dedicated she is to her recovery and getting back on track,” the source said.
As for how long she will be in rehab, a source said, “She doesn’t know yet. This is not a set 30 or 60 day program. It will take as long as she needs. She’s not putting any limits on herself. She just wants to feel better and get back into a healthier space.”
Hours before entering rehab, Spears was in the mood for a dance, posting a video on Instagram of herself gyrating to Cardi B, J Balvin and Bad Bunny’s “I Like It.”
She showed off a few moves in a sheer black bodysuit, knee-high boots and a bright red fedora hat, and seemed okay with risking a wardrobe malfunction to get spanked.
On March 4, Spears was seen swerving in and out of traffic lanes and taken into custody. An unknown substance was also allegedly found in her car during her arrest, and she is believed to have been under the influence of a cocktail of alcohol and drugs.
She was released the next morning, according to Ventura County Sheriff’s Office arrest records.
Spears was “crying and very tearful” during her arrest for drunk driving, a source said at the time.
A source said Spears is “embarrassed and embarrassed” and “deeply regrets” the incident.
“She doesn’t want to disappoint anyone, including her fans,” the source added. “The last thing she wants is to be judged in public again.”
