Match Factory will handle international sales for Valeska Grisebach’s latest feature film, The Dreamed Adventure. The film marks the director’s return to the Croisette, having been shortlisted for the Palme d’Or as part of the competition at the Cannes Film Festival. The first look video of this work has been released (above).
The film is set in a border town in southeastern Bulgaria, and tells the story of a woman who becomes involved in illegal trade in order to help a man with whom she has a special bond. As she embarks on a dangerous adventure in his place, she comes face to face with both her own desires and her past.
Director Griesebach said: “The starting point for this film was an encounter with people of my generation who experienced the political upheaval in Bulgaria in 1989. They showed me how deeply this turning point in Europe connected us, and how the very different experiences that followed in the years that followed also deeply connected and divided us.”
Written and directed by Griesebach, the film stars Yana Radeva and Suleiman Khalil Retifov (Western). The film is produced by Komplizen Film in collaboration with Kazak Productions, Miramar Film, Panama Film, Valeska Grisebach, New Matter Films, ARTE France Cinéma and ZDF/ARTE, in association with ARTE France.
The film is supported by the Federal Government for Culture and Media, Medienbode Berlin Brandenburg, Film Feldlungsanstalt, German Film Foundation, German Medical Museum Mittel, Creative Europe Media, Film Subsidy, National Center for Film and Video Animation, Institut Français, Bulgarian National Film Center, Österreichs Film Institute and ÖFI+, Filmfonds Vienna.
