‘The Brady Bunch’ star Mike Lookinland has admitted that his behavior was “completely insane” after he shot to stardom on ‘The Brady Bunch’.
Lookinland and Christopher Knight spoke about their experiences as young adults in the Hollywood industry after starring as Bobby and Peter Brady on the 1970s sitcom.
“Why didn’t you guys get mugshots?” Jaybo Jones asked during an episode of “The Real Brady Brothers.” “…No one has said anything bad about the kids on ‘The Brady Bunch.'”
“Probably because I didn’t want to disappoint Florence and Bob,” Mr. Knight replied. “So that’s how it started. It’s like there’s someone you don’t want to disappoint. I think my feelings for those two were stronger than my own parents.”
Florence Henderson and Robert Reed starred as Carol and Mike on “The Brady Bunch,” playing parental figures to Lookinland and Knight.
Lookinland admitted that he had a harder time in his 20s.
“I didn’t get to do it as a kid, so I spent my 20s having a childhood,” he explained. “And in my 20s, I had a car and money and freedom…I was completely off the rails.”
He later added: “I’m just thankful that when I was 25, not every man, woman, and child had a high-definition camera in their pocket like they do now, because that would have ruined my life.”
Mr Knight said he had heard “stories” about what Lookinland was up to at the time. “Some of it was unremarkable,” Lookinland replied.
“What happens in Salt Lake City stays in Salt Lake City,” Knight joked.
On a previous episode of The Real Brady Brothers, Lookinlund and Knight’s co-star Susan Olsen revealed that she “almost died” while filming the first episode of The Brady Bunch as Cindy Brady. While rewatching the pilot with her co-stars, Olsen revealed that this was the last close-up shot of Cindy because she “got hurt.” Her co-stars were shocked by the news, but she continued: “Oh, I almost died.”
“At Culver’s property, they were filming something – probably in the girl’s bedroom – and I was doing body makeup on my legs,” Olsen said. “I was standing on the makeup chair and something fell off the catwalk where the lights and everything is kept.”
“It hit the makeup guy first, bounced off the body makeup woman and hit me in the face.”
“If you look at the[wedding]ceremony, there’s three girls on one side, and if you zoom in quite a bit, you can see that my face is pretty swollen,” Olsen explained. “My appearance has changed. You can see it in the early publicity photos. You can see my face is a little swollen.”
“The Brady Bunch” aired from 1969 to 1974. The show featured a blended family of three boys and three girls from a previous marriage.
The sitcom followed the life of a family and showcased their adventures and more.
