Tiger Woods’ ex Kristin Smith wrote a lengthy statement on social media Friday regarding what she said was the “trigger” of the golfer’s DUI arrest.
The stylist told her Instagram followers on Sunday that now that she has “moved on” from her romance, she doesn’t want to be “drawn back to these moments and stories that aren’t true.”
“More than that, after an unrelated traumatic incident in recent years, I don’t cope well with unexpected approaches or confrontations, which can be very disturbing for me,” she wrote in a story over the weekend.
Ms Smith added that she and her family had been dealing with “anxiety and fear” of being “contacted, surveilled, followed in the hopes of provoking a reaction about something” that had not involved her “for a very long time”.
The influencer explained that she has “taken time to process” her personal experiences with Woods, 50, and is “grateful for the moments that shaped her.”
“I hope people remember that the people they celebrate and entertain are first and foremost human beings and should be treated with the same civility as everyone else,” Smith continued, alluding to her ex-girlfriend.
After emphasizing her request for privacy for her family, Smith said she had “chosen silence on this situation” for nearly a decade, apparently referring to the NDA arbitration report.
“The decision wasn’t always easy,” she concluded. “Finally, it feels cathartic to not give up on yourself, to move on.”
The businesswoman, who has an 18-year-old son, Isaiah, with former NFL star Gerald Sensabaugh, started dating Woods in 2016.
The two broke up the following year before the latter was arrested for drunk driving, which was discovered after he fell asleep at the wheel.
“Kristin Smith and I are no longer dating. We haven’t been since last year,” he wrote in August 2017, three months after the accident.
In the May 2017 accident, the PGA golfer had Vicodin, Dilaudid, Xanax, Ambien, and THC in his system.
He pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of reckless driving in a plea deal in October 2017.
Woods crashed his car in 2009 while under the influence of sleeping pills, and in 2021 he suffered near-fatal injuries and a broken leg in a single-car accident.
Woods’ most recent rollover accident occurred on Jupiter Island, Florida, where he tried to pass a pressure washer and clipped a trailer.
The professional athlete was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after a police officer said he was showing “signs of impairment” despite a negative DUI test.
Woods “refused a urine test.”
A mug shot showed him with bloodshot eyes, and he was seen with his head down hours later as he was released from the Martin County Jail.
Woods, who is currently dating Vanessa Trump, has yet to speak out about the headline-grabbing incident.
