Carole Radziwill has revealed that her ex-boyfriend auditioned for the role of her late husband Anthony Radziwill on Ryan Murphy’s FX series Love Story.
The journalist, who was married to John F. Kennedy Jr.’s cousin, said in an interview with The New York Times published Thursday that her unnamed ex-husband also called to ask her to record Anthony to perfect the role.
She recalled going on a brief date with the man several years ago and described how unexpected and shocking the call was.
The role was ultimately given to actor Eric Bergen, who co-starred with Paul Anthony Kelly, who played JFK Jr., and Sarah Pidgeon, who played Carolyn Bessette. Bergen and Carroll were not dating.
The series details the relationship between Kennedy Jr. and Bessette, from how they met, their marriage in 1996, and their tragic death in a plane crash in 1999.
Meanwhile, Anthony died in 1999 after a battle with cancer, just three weeks after his cousin and publicist. He was 40 years old.
The television executive and Carol, now 62, married in 1994, and Kennedy Jr. was the best man.
Carroll reassured the New York Times that she has not watched “Love Story” since the series first aired in February.
The “Real Housewives of New York City” alum did not appear on the show, which concludes with Thursday night’s finale.
However, Carol has previously defended her family from those who criticize them, telling the outlet, “Defending Carolyn and speaking about my husband was the hill I would die on.”
“But to be honest, I never expected it to become a mountain 25 years later.”
The TV personality recalled meeting Bessette in 1992 and explained that they had “a lot in common in weird ways” and how the latter was “her rock” when Anthony was undergoing treatment.
“She was always there for me,” Carol said.
“Love Story” has been heavily criticized by friends and members of the Kennedy family, including Kennedy Jr.’s nephew Jack Schlossberg.
“If you want to know someone who has never met any of my family and knows nothing about us, talk to Ryan Murphy,” he said on “CBS Sunday Morning” earlier this month, accusing producers of profiting from his family.
The final episode of “Love Story” airs Thursday (9 p.m. ET) on Hulu’s FX.
