Variety exclusively reported that Radial Entertainment has acquired exclusive North American distribution rights to the original sci-fi film “Signal One” from Motion Pictures Exchange (MPX).
The film was written and directed by Jonathan Sobol (A Beginner’s Guide to Endings, The Baker) and stars Isabelle Fuhrman and Josh Hutcherson, as well as David Thewlis and Dennis Quaid. Produced by Doug Murray and Nicholas Tabarrok.
Radial Entertainment will distribute the film in the United States and Canada, including theatrical and home entertainment rights and ancillary rights for cross-platform release. Radial Entertainment’s Jordan Fields and MPX’s Ryan Berry negotiated the deal with their respective companies.
“Some movies just pop up when you need them, and ‘Signal One’ is a perfect example of that,” said Fields, Radial Entertainment’s senior vice president of acquisitions. “Jonathan tells an urgent and incredibly compelling story that asks questions about our place in the universe. It’s sophisticated, emotionally moving, essential science fiction, and the wonderful cast is at its best. Such provocative and thoughtful entertainment will resonate with a wide range of audiences.”
The official description of “Signal One” reads as follows:
“When tech billionaire Sam Houston hires Annika, a brilliant computer scientist, she enters an isolated facility run by the genius and nihilistic creator of Little Mouse, a machine that can communicate with alien intelligence. Annika soon learns something that will change humanity: we are not alone in the universe, and that alien intelligence The sexes are communicating all around us all the time, and perhaps we are too primitive to even remotely understand what they are trying to tell us. Efforts turn from listening to talking, the project quickly descends into chaos, and soon Annika and the team must work to ensure the survival of our species.
“High, intelligent science fiction like ‘Signal One’ is exactly the type of storytelling that audiences are drawn to,” said Berry, president and co-founder of MPX. “We are proud to once again partner with Shout! Studios/Radial Entertainment to bring this film to audiences and create a powerful, impactful and meaningful release.”
“I look forward to audiences seeing this thought-provoking, heart-tugging ‘real’ science fiction story brought to life by this incredibly talented cast of actors,” added Tabarrok.
