Marico founder Harsh Mariwala’s book on screen adaptations

India’s Almighty Motion Pictures, the makers of ‘Made in India – The Story of a Titan,’ is moving to bring to the big screen ‘Harsh Realities: The Making of Marico,’ the business bestseller about how Harsh Mariwala built one of India’s most famous consumer goods companies from the ground up.

The project is in the early stages of development and writer Karan Vyas is on board. Vyas has previously worked on ‘Scam 1992’, ‘Scoop’ and ‘Made in India – A Titan Story’. With this adaptation, Almighty Motion Picture further expands its focus on true stories from India.

Central to this is Mariwala’s choice to exit the family-owned Bombay Oil Industries Ltd. in 1987 and set up Marico on his own. Since then, the company has grown into a multinational company, whose brands include Parachute, Saffola, Set Wet, Liveon, Beardo and Prix, and is used by an estimated one in three Indians. The company’s international operations account for approximately 25% of group revenue. Co-authored by Mariwala and business strategist Ram Charan, the original text is based on Mariwala’s own account of the decisions, setbacks, and leadership choices behind that rise.

“This is an extraordinary story and we at Almighty Motion Picture feel lucky to have the opportunity to bring it to celluloid,” said Praveleen Sandhu, co-founder of Almighty Motion Picture.

Co-founder Sunita Vinod Vyas said the project fits in with the company’s broader objectives. “At Almighty Motion Pictures, we have always wanted to tell important stories from India. Mr. Mariwala’s journey is so inspiring and we are honored to bring it to the screen in cinematic form,” she said.

Vyas said the mission has personal meaning. “I’m honored to have the opportunity to write such a real and moving story. I’m grateful and grateful to God for being a part of this journey,” he said.

Mariwala said that the film version will give new dimensions to the book’s themes. “Every entrepreneur’s journey is filled with moments that rarely make headlines: doubts, long nights, and decisions that quietly shape the direction of a business. Harsh Reality was born from those lived experiences. An honest account of what it takes to build over time. “It was meant to be,” he said, adding that films allow audiences to experience that journey in a way that the written word cannot, and that the project speaks to a broader appetite for stories about India’s entrepreneurial past and the institutions that have shaped its economy.
