Love is in the air and apparently under the sea as well.
METALLICA frontman James Hetfield took romance to surprising depths, proposing to his glamorous girlfriend Adriana Gillette while swimming with whale sharks in a wild underwater stunt.
The 62-year-old metal legend ditched the candlelight for fins and a face mask and held up a handwritten sign beneath the waves that read: “Adrianna Gillette, will you marry me?” — all the while surrounded by giant marine life.

Gillette, 45, announced the happy news on Instagram by sharing a snap of the couple in snorkeling gear.
“The best birthday travel surprise,” she exclaimed. “Swimming with whale sharks on Friday the 13th is the most unique, special and romantic proposal a Pisces can imagine.”
“In a sea full of fish, we caught each other. Thank you God for bringing us together,” she added.
The engagement comes just four years after Hetfield split from his wife of 25 years, Francesca Tomasi.
The former couple, who share three children together, Cali, Castor, and Marcela, have announced that they will officially divorce in 2022, citing irreconcilable differences.
Hetfield and Gillette started dating in 2023, and things obviously moved quickly from there.
The ‘Enter Sandman’ rocker has long been open about his personal struggles, previously admitting his marriage to Tomasi had reached a crisis point due to anger and alcohol issues.
In a 2017 interview with Joe Rogan, he revealed that he hit rock bottom after being kicked out of his home.
“That’s what I was so scared of, losing my family,” he said. “That’s when I hit rock bottom. My family was going to be separated because of my actions that I brought back from my travels. My wife kicked me out. I was living alone somewhere. I didn’t want that. My wife kicked me out. I didn’t want that. I didn’t want that.”
“She kicked my ass out of the house right away, and that scared me. She said, ‘Hey, you have to go somewhere else now and not just go to a therapist and talk about this.’ So I did. ”
But now it’s a fresh chapter, one that includes a deep-sea proposal and a second chance at love.
Meanwhile, Metallica are gearing up to dominate the stage once again with their massive Las Vegas residency at the Sphere.
The band is promising eight explosive shows in October, and in true Metallica fashion, no two nights will be the same, as they’ll deliver a brand new setlist every Thursday and Saturday from October 1st to October 31st.
