Nicole Kidman’s eyes were wide closed.
The actress opened up about why she was told “no, no, no” when she kissed Alexander Skarsgard on HBO’s “Big Little Lies.”
“When Alexander Skarsgård ate a falafel sandwich before we did the ‘Big Little Lies’ scene, I thought, ‘No, no, Alex. I was going to kiss you like crazy. Now put the falafel away,'” Kidman said on Wednesday’s “Las Culturistas” podcast.
“I don’t think he ever ate falafel again. I said, ‘I’m never going to eat falafel again. Not before we kiss, not before we make love.'”
The “Scarpetta” star added, “I can’t stand bad breath.”
“This is a deal breaker for me,” Kidman said emphatically. “You could be the most drop-dead gorgeous person. If you come at me with bad breath, I’ll say no. If I say, ‘Blow on,’ and have to back away, oh, I’m out. You couldn’t offer me enough money.”
Luckily for Kidman, she temporarily lost her sense of smell due to COVID-19, which the “Baby Girl” actress says was a “relief.”
“I’m finally free,” she exclaims, adding that her sense of smell has finally returned.
With her nostrils working at full capacity, Kidman was able to recognize the presence of the person she thought smelled best.
“Rihanna,” the “Perfect Couple” alum said. “You don’t have to untangle it or decipher it. Just know that this is all true. It’s as crazy as, ‘I’m coming after you.’ ”
Big Little Lies aired for two seasons from 2017 to 2019, long before she lost her sense of smell.
Kidman, 58, and Skarsgard, 49, played Celeste and Perry White in season one of the hit drama. Despite faking a perfect family, Perry was secretly abusive to his wife.
The series, which also starred Reese Witherspoon, Laura Dern, Shailene Woodley, Zoe Kravitz, and Meryl Streep, quickly became a fan favorite and swept the 69th Primetime Emmy Awards in 2017.
Big Little Lies won eight out of 16 nominations, including Best Actress for Kidman and Best Supporting Actor for Skarsgard.
Seven years later, rumors are swirling that a third season of the psychological drama is in the works.
According to a September 2025 report from Deadline, author Liane Moriarty, who wrote the book on which the show is based, has almost finished writing her latest work.
The outlet revealed that Francesca Sloan will be writing the first episode of Season 3, which is currently in development at the network. David, creator of the original series. E. Kelly is also back.
“We’re in early negotiations… I’ve been in touch with Liane Moriarty. She has a lot of ideas about where these characters are right now,” Witherspoon, 49, told USA Today on Tuesday.
“They’ve grown up and are now teenagers. It’s been almost 10 years… As you can imagine, parenting a child that age has its challenges,” she added.
In January, the “Legally Blonde” star teased her followers on Instagram by posting a series of photos from filming the first season, writing, “2016. Bringing back some big memories with the people I love.”
