Two lead roles have been found for the drama adaptation of the “Life is Strange” series on Amazon Prime Video.
Variety has exclusively learned that Maisie Stella and Tatum Grace Hopkins have been cast in the roles of Chloe and Max, respectively. The show was first reported to launch on Prime Video in September 2025.
According to the official logline, the show will be about “Max (Hopkins), a photography student, discovers he can rewind time while saving the life of his childhood best friend Chloe (Stella). As she struggles to understand this new skill, the pair investigate the mysterious disappearance of a classmate and uncover the dark side of a town that ultimately forces them to make impossible life-or-death choices that will affect them forever.”
As previously reported, the show will be written by Charlie Covell, who will also serve as executive producer and showrunner. Dmitri M. Johnson, Michael Lawrence Goldberg and Timothy I. Stevenson will executive produce under their Story Kitchen banner. The series is created by Square Enix, Story Kitchen, LuckyChap and produced by Amazon MGM Studios.
Hopkins will make her television debut on “Life is Strange.” Until now, she has mainly been active on stage, starring in the Broadway productions “The Queen of Versailles” and “For the Girls.” She also appeared in the short film “Meek,” which premiered at the 2024 Montclair Film Festival.
Stella is an accomplished musician, but in terms of acting, her biggest TV role to date was on ABC’s hit musical drama ‘Nashville,’ where she played Daphne Conrad throughout season 6. She made her film debut in 2024 in the critically acclaimed feature film My Old Ass opposite Aubrey Plaza, for which Stella won an Independent Spirit Award. She then appeared in Maud Apatow’s feature directorial debut, Poetic License. The film will premiere at the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival and is scheduled for release in the U.S. later this year. Similarly, she is set to appear alongside Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor in the feature film Flowerveil Street, also scheduled for release later this year.
Stella is repped by CAA, Entertainment 360, Narrative and McKuin Frankel Whitehead. Mr. Hopkins is repped by CESD & PH Entertainment Group. Covell is represented by UTA, Lark Mgmt Hansen Jacobson.
Story Kitchen is repped by WME and Pryor Cashman. LuckyChap is repped by Entertainment 360, CAA, attorney Jeff Bernstein, and Narrative.
It was reported in January that Life is Strange: Reunion, the final installment in Chloe and Max’s story, would be released on Xbox Series X|S and PC on March 26th.
The first Life is Strange game was released in 2015 to positive reviews, industry acclaim, and numerous award nominations and wins. In 2023, it was reported that the total number of players for the game exceeded 20 million. Following the original game, a prequel, Life is Strange: Before the Storm, was released in 2017. 2018 saw the release of Captain Spirit’s Awesome Adventures and Life is Strange 2, which focused on new characters. These were followed in 2021 by the release of another standalone game, Life is Strange: True Colors. “Life is Strange: Double Exposure” is back with Max as the main character. The game was developed by Don’t Nod Entertainment, followed by Deck Nine, and Square Enix was the publisher.
