Winter is coming to the big screen.
The “Game of Throne” movie is in production at Warner Bros. from “House of Cards” showrunner and “Andor” screenwriter Beau Willimon. According to Page Six Hollywood, he has already submitted a draft, which broke the news of the project. Neither the director nor the cast have been decided.
However, the paper noted that it is unclear whether a Game of Thrones movie will actually be made, following news that Warner Bros. is in the process of selling the company to Paramount Skydance. If the merger is approved, the new management could scrap films in development. At the same time, “Game of Thrones” is one of the company’s crown jewels, and Paramount CEO David Ellison has promised to release 30 movies in theaters if the two media giants join together. This means that a large amount of material is required to complete the joint slate.
Plot details have not been confirmed, but the story will reportedly take place centuries before the original Game of Thrones TV series, about King Aegon I, founder of the Targaryen dynasty, and his conquest of Westeros. Aegon I has never appeared on screen. But the royal family that ultimately produced Emilia Clarke’s icy blonde Daenerys Targaryen is the basis for two successful HBO spinoff series, House of the Dragon (rebroadcast this summer) and Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (which just wrapped its first season). “Game of Thrones,” based on George R.R. Martin’s best-selling fantasy novel, ran for eight seasons and won enough Emmys to fill the Seven Kingdoms.
