Maitreyi Ramakrishnan plans to return to high school.
The “Never Have I Ever” alum is set to star in Season 2 of the “Legally Blonde” prequel series “Elle” on Amazon Prime Video. The first season of the series is scheduled to be released on July 1st, and Amazon announced the show’s second season renewal in January. Production on Season 2 is scheduled to begin this spring.
Lexi Minnetree plays young Elle Woods in high school on Elle. Sam, played by Ramakrishnan, is described as “Elle’s foil, with all the protagonist’s ambitions but none of her optimism. She is the founder and editor of the school newspaper, the lord baron, the head of the grammar police, and the enemy of pleasure. If Cosmo is Elle’s bible, AP Stylebook is Sam’s holy grail.”
Ramakrishnan is best known for starring in Netflix’s Never Have I Ever, which ran for four seasons and received widespread critical acclaim. She has also lent her voice to multiple animated productions, including the Pixar film “Turning Red” and multiple installments of the “My Little Pony” series. She recently starred in the highly anticipated sequel, Freaky Friday, opposite Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan.
Ramakrishnan is repped by CAA, Premier Artist Management and Felker Toczek Suddleson.
In addition to Minnetree, the Elle Season 1 cast also includes June Diane Raphael as Elle’s mother Eva, Tom Everett Scott as her father Wyatt, as well as Gabriel Policano, Jacob Moskowitz, Chandler Kinney, and Zack Rucker. Recurring cast members include Jessica Belkin, Logan Shroyer, Amy Peets, Matt Ober, Chloe Wepper, David Burtka, Brad Harder, Kayla Maisonette, and Lisa Yamada. The late James Van Der Beek also makes a guest appearance, marking his final screen appearance.
ELLE was created by Laura Kittrell, who serves as co-showrunner and executive producer alongside Caroline Dries. Witherspoon, Lauren Neustadter, Marc Platt and Amanda Brown will also serve as executive producers. Jason Moore directed the first two episodes and also served as executive producer.
