Sarah Palin has been by her boyfriend Ron Duguay’s hospital bedside as he battles stage 4 cancer.
After Page Six reported on the former New York Rangers player’s illness, his daughter Shay Thomas took to Instagram to share the difficult journey her father has endured since being diagnosed with the disease.
Part of the video showed Palin, 62, feeding Duguay, 68, a spoonful of food as she lay in a hospital bed with an IV in her arm.
In another part of the video, the former Alaska governor and former ice hockey player are seen smiling and taking a selfie together.
Duguay and Palin have been dating since early 2022, after the politician reached out to the former athlete for advice during his libel trial against The New York Times.
Since then, the pair have appeared together in public several times, including at Little Stephen’s 9th Annual Policeman’s Ball in 2023.
As Page Six previously reported, Duguay’s daughter Amber Stavros and Thomas launched a GoFundMe to raise money to “support travel expenses, treatment, holistic care, and these new treatments.”
“After many discussions as a family, we decided to do this fundraiser because we saw the toll this fight was taking on him both physically and financially,” they wrote on the fundraising site.
“Because of his cancer, he has not been able to work as much as he normally would, but he continues to fight as hard as he can.”
Stavros and Thomas said their father’s cancer numbers have recently “started to rise again” and the family is “exploring further treatment options outside the United States” in hopes of giving Duguay the “best possible chance.”
“These treatments are extremely expensive and add an additional financial burden during an already difficult time,” they added.
As of this article’s publication, the family has raised nearly $52,000 of their $50,000 goal.
Duguay told Page Six he has been battling cancer for a year.
The former NHL player’s cancer started in his colon and he lost both his appendix and gallbladder.
Duguay said she didn’t want to create a GoFundMe, but wants her daughters to do what they think is best.
“I think it’s going to be very difficult to seek funding for all these expenses that I’m going through,” he told us. “Usually I help other people.”
