Neighbors said Martin Short’s late daughter, Catherine, was friendly but mostly kept to herself.
Catherine passed away on Monday in an apparent suicide. According to TMZ, she was found dead in her home in the Hollywood Hills, California, suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
A neighbor of the social worker told Us Weekly that she was a “great neighbor and gardener” and called her death “incredibly sad.”
Another neighbor said Katherine was “very nice”, never threw loud parties and mostly kept to herself.
A third neighbor told the magazine that Kathryn seemed friendly and would sometimes wave “hello” while sitting on her porch, but they didn’t interact much.
Short’s representative confirmed Katherine’s heartbreaking death to Page Six on Tuesday.
She was 42 years old.
“It is with deep sadness that we confirm the passing of Catherine Hartley Short,” the statement said.
“The Short family is devastated by this loss and asks for privacy at this time. Katherine was loved by all and will be remembered for the light and joy she brought to the world.”
Katherine was the eldest child of the “Bill Murder” star and his late wife Nancy Dolman. Dolman passed away in August 2010 after a battle with ovarian cancer.
The couple adopted three children, Catherine and sons Oliver (39) and Henry (36), before Mr. Dolman died.
Although Katherine has mostly remained private, she has attended several public events over the years and posed for red carpet photos with her parents.
She pursued her education, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and gender sexuality studies from New York University in 2006, followed by a master’s degree in social work from the University of Southern California in 2010.
She was also involved with Bring Change 2 Mind, a charity that aims to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health.
