Mark Adelstein, who broke out in “Anora,” scored his first English-language role since director Sean Baker’s Palme d’Or and multiple Oscar-winning film, co-starring rising star Esther McGregor (“Babygirl,” “The Room Next Door”) in “Becoming Capable.”
The film, written and directed by Charlotte Colbert (She Will), was shot on location in Bilbao, Madrid and Paris.
Described as “a story of love, boldness, and defiance in a world in political turmoil,” Becoming Capa tells the story of famed battlefield photographers Gerda Tallo and Robert Capa. In addition to McGregor and Adelstein, the cast includes Emily Carey (Geek Girl), William Gao (Heartstoppers), Nabaan Rizwan (Chaos, In Camera), and Rossy De Palma. (The Parallel Mothers), Matthieu Demy (On the Verge), Bruno Gouly (Emily in Paris), and Clémence Poésy (In Camera) also appear in the cast. Bruges”, “Tenet”) and Danny Huston (“Yellowstone”).
Currently in post-production in London, the film also stars Lobo Films’ Andrea Cornwell (The Wicker, Love Lies Bleeding, Saint Maud) and Zephyr Films’ Chris Carling (The Last Station, Miracle Cradle). A British filmmaking icon, Jeremy Thomas is best known for The Last Emperor and his long-standing collaborations with directors such as David Cronenberg, Stephen Frears and Takashi Miike.
“Becoming Capa”’s creative team behind the camera includes Oscar-winning production designer Eugenio Caballero (“Pan’s Labyrinth,” “Roma,” “The Impossible”); Director of Photography Pavel Pogorzelsky (“Hereditary,” “Midsommar,” “Not Afraid of Bo”); Oscar-winning makeup designer Stéphanie Guillon (“Substance”); and editor Sam Sneed (“I Swear,” “Sexy Beast,” “Birth”).
Charlotte Colbert made her feature debut in the BIFA-nominated She Will, starring Alice Cridge, Malcolm McDowell and Rupert Everett, which won the Golden Leopard Award for Best Debut Film at the Locarno Film Festival. As an artist, her work has been exhibited in international public spaces, galleries, art fairs and institutions, including the V&A, Montpellier Museum of Contemporary Art, Frieze, the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, and Art Basel. This year, she will install new large-scale public works for art biennials in Manhattan, New York City, Dallas, and along the Grand Canal in Venice.
