Timothée Chalamet celebrated his 30th birthday on December 27th, and girlfriend Kylie Jenner surprised him with a special big gesture. Chalamet spoke during a CNN town hall with Matthew McConaughey about how Jenner arranged for a secret Interstellar IMAX screening. McConaughey and Chalamet starred in the 2014 film, with Chalamet playing McConaughey’s son.
Chalamet loved Interstellar and told his co-stars: “I’ve probably seen it legally 22 times or so. I saw it 12 times in theaters when it came out.”
“His girlfriend set up a screening of a movie or something for his birthday,” McConaughey revealed.
“This is true,” Chalamet confirmed before going into the full story. “This also applies to my last birthday. And on the way there, I was grumpy because I didn’t know where she was taking me. It’s my birthday. Why would I drive 30 minutes through the suburbs of Los Angeles? I got to the theater, and it was Interstellar in IMAX. I said, ‘Oh, I’m sorry.’ I said, “I’m sorry for being so grumpy while driving.” But–I didn’t mean to bring that up, dude. ”
McConaughey laughed and Chalamet continued. “But listen, I love that movie,” he said. “And I just hope, I don’t know. I see a lot of young faces here and I hope you can relate too, because I love that movie. And I’m the only one who gets sad every time Casey Affleck comes on screen, because that’s when I step away from the movie. But I have a good friend named Ryan, he’s a Texas kid. He says Interstellar drops in 37 minutes.”
This isn’t the first time Chalamet has spoken a bit about his relationship with Jenner this year. At the Critics’ Choice Awards, he cheered her on in his acceptance speech for Best Actor. “And finally, I would like to thank my partner of three years,” he told the crowd, which included Jenner, who was his date at the ceremony. “Thank you to our foundation. We love you. We couldn’t do this without you. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”
