The late James Van Der Beek will make his final film appearance in The Gates, starring as an evil priest named Jacob, as revealed in the trailer.
The new thriller, directed by Jon Barr (“Legend of the Muse”), hits theaters on March 13th. In addition to Van Der Beek, the cast includes Mason Gooding, Algee Smith, Keith Powers, and Brad Leland.
“The Gates” is the story of three friends who witness a murder while driving through a gated community. The trio find themselves targeted by an evil pastor (Van Der Beek) and must confront him and other suspicious neighbors in order to survive.
In the trailer, Van Der Beek’s character declares, “I’m called to lead this community, but these boys are trying to destroy us. Let’s find them and do God’s will.” He later added, pointing a gun at the trio. “You saw what happens when people get in my way.
Van Der Beek, best known for his role as main character Dawson Leery on “Dawson’s Creek,” has appeared in films such as “Varsity Blues” and “Rules of Attraction.” Later in his career, he appeared on shows such as “Mercy” and “Don’t Trust the B—- in Apt. 23.” Before her death on February 11, Ms. Van Der Beek was filming a recurring role in Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming “Legally Blonde” prequel series “Elle.”
Following Van Der Beek’s death, his friends set up a GoFundMe account to support his wife and six children, raising more than $2.6 million.
