Emily Deschanel has been cast as the lead in the pilot for NBC’s untitled drama from Dean Georgis and John Foxx.
The pilot was originally picked up by NBC in January. It is inspired by the real-life research of internationally renowned profiler expert and author Dr. Anne Burgess.
The pilot’s logline reads, “Professor Georgia Ryan (Deschanel) is a pioneering psychologist who challenges the field of criminology by shifting the focus of investigations from perpetrators to victims in order to uncover important clues left behind by traditional methods. Together with her team, this pioneering expert turns to the FBI to solve some of the most mysterious and elusive cases.”
This casting means that NBC will have a “Bones” reunion (of sorts). Deschanel’s former co-star David Boreanaz was recently tapped to star in the pilot for NBC’s reboot of The Rockford Files. If Deschanel’s pilot is made into a series, it would be her second time appearing on a TV show as an off-line crime investigator, following her starring role as forensic anthropologist Temperance “Bones” Brennan in Bones.
Deschanel appeared on “Bones” for 12 seasons and approximately 250 episodes. She is also a producer on the show and directed the final season premiere in her directorial debut. Deschanel’s other television credits include TNT’s “Animal Kingdom,” ABC’s “The Rookie” and Netflix’s “Devil in Ohio.” She has also appeared in films such as “ReEntry” and “Big Boys.”
She is repped by Mr. Gersh, Principal Entertainment LA and Hansen Jacobsen Teller.
George Garris and Foxx will serve as writers and executive producers on the pilot, with John Davis serving as executive producer through Davis Entertainment. In addition to starring, Deschanel will also produce. Burgess is a consulting producer, as is Steve Constantine. Produced by Universal Television.
