Prince William and Duchess Kate have spoken out for the first time about newly released files on the late convicted criminal Jeffrey Epstein.
Kensington Palace told Page Six that on Monday, ahead of their arrival in Saudi Arabia, they “confirmed to reporters that the Prince and Princess are deeply concerned by the continuing revelations.”
“Their thoughts remain focused on the victims,” the spokesperson added.
Last week, the Justice Department released more than 3 million records related to conduct committed by Epstein and his accomplices, including his right-hand man, Ghislaine Maxwell, who is currently serving a 20-year sentence for sex trafficking.
Epstein died in prison in 2019 at the age of 66.
Prince William’s uncle, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, who has been banned from royal life over his links to Epstein, is named in the document.
The files include a photo of Andrew, 65, crouched over an unidentified woman lying underneath him, as well as an email that appears to support the authenticity of a 2001 photo of Andrew with 17-year-old Virginia Giuffre.
Also included were emails containing lewd comments about Andrew’s ex-wife Sarah Ferguson’s daughter Eugenie, then 19.
Mr Andrew denies any wrongdoing, but was stripped of his titles of ‘Prince’ and ‘Duke of York’ by his brother Charles III in October. He was also forced to leave Royal Lodge, where he had lived for more than 20 years.
Mr Ferguson also lost his title as Duchess of York.
“Following discussions with the King and my immediate family, I have come to the conclusion that the continued allegations against me will interfere with the work of His Majesty the King and the Royal Family,” Andrew said in a statement announcing the revocation.
“As always, I have decided to put my duty to my family and country first. I stand by my decision five years ago to withdraw from public life,” Andrew added, repeating that he “categorically denies the charges against me.”
Until the new statement, Mr. William and Mr. Middleton, both 44, had avoided discussing their relationship with Mr. Andrew and Mr. Epstein, including when they were heckled during a joint visit to Scotland last month.
As the couple were shaking hands with people outside a pub in the village of Farin, someone shouted: “How long have you known about Andrew and Epstein? How long have you known about Andrew and Epstein?”
