Gabourey Sidibe overshadowed Kathy Hilton about four years after the reality personality confused her with Lizzo.
Hilton misidentified Lizzo as Sidibe during a round of the celebrity photo guessing game “Does Kathy Know Them?” on an August 2022 episode of “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.”
When shown a photo of “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star Lizzo, 37, he said, “I feel like I know[her].[Is that]precious?”
After some uncomfortable laughter from the audience and host Andy Cohen, Hilton explained, “That’s kind of what I call her. Her nickname is precious to me.”
Former RHOBH star Crystal Kung Minkoff, who also appeared in the episode, tried to help Hilton by saying, “But she’s precious. Lizzo is precious.”
Sidibe, 42, who was nominated for an Oscar for her role in the 2009 drama film, finally spoke about the moment on Wednesday’s episode of the One54 podcast.
“It was weird because I went to the woman’s house and met her,” she laughed, referring to the reality TV star. “I was like, ‘I know you, Kathy.'”
“I’ve never met Lizzo, but Lizzo and I do different things,” she explained. “I, like many women, have been confused with many black fat people, and it always feels strange and reeks of racism.”
She added, “I certainly thought that was strange, Kathy Hilton, because I had gone to this woman’s house and met her because she wanted to dress me. I thought that was very strange.”
Sidibe apparently admitted that she was uncomfortable with Hilton calling her the title character. “She should know my real name, too, because she said, ‘Precious?'” I just…I don’t know. ”
Representatives for Hilton did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment on Friday.
Hilton addressed the gaffe on social media at the time, writing, “My eyesight is terrible” and “The screen was so far away I couldn’t even recognize Justin Timberlake or Melissa Ethridge.”
A source reveals to E! News that Bravolebrity felt “terrible” following this mistake and the subsequent backlash from fans.
“She gets a little nervous when she appears on live TV,” a source told the show. “Kathy is a very sensitive person and would never intentionally hurt someone’s feelings.”
They added that the Hilton matriarch “doesn’t know who’s who.”
